Why 72V matters

The biggest change on the MX5 Pro is the move from a 60V to a 72V electrical system. Higher voltage lets the motor deliver more power for the same current, which translates into stronger torque, harder acceleration and higher speeds. It also helps the motor run cooler, because less current means less heat. Cooler running keeps performance consistent on long climbs and hot days.

The battery itself is a highlight. Built with Samsung 50S 21700 cells, the 72V 40Ah pack stores 2,880 Wh of energy, more than any rival in the class. That means longer rides between charges, or more performance from the same charge, depending on how you ride.

Performance and ride modes

The DC IPM motor delivers instant, smooth torque through Talaria’s internal reinforced gearbox. Twist the throttle and the MX5 Pro responds immediately, launching out of corners and powering up climbs that would slow lesser bikes.

Three ride modes let you tailor that power. The lower modes give a calm, controllable response for technical terrain and newer riders. The hyper performance mode, unique to the MX5, unlocks everything the 72V system can deliver for experienced riders on open trails and tracks.

Regenerative braking has four levels, and the MX5 Pro adds an on-demand regen brake lever. Pull it to slow the bike using the motor, saving your brake pads and putting energy back into the battery. Many riders find it makes long descents far more relaxing.

The gearbox: quiet and reliable

Like every Sting, the MX5 Pro uses an internal reinforced gearbox instead of a drive belt. Belts can wear, stretch or snap, especially when stones and grit get between them and the pulleys. The gearbox is sealed, quiet and built to last, so you can say goodbye to worn-out or snapped belts. Routine care is limited to periodic oil changes.

Brakes: 20% more stopping power

More power needs more stopping power, and Talaria delivered. The MX5 Pro uses oversized 220 x 3.0 mm rotors, much larger calipers, redesigned DOT master cylinders and an upgraded brake pad compound. Together they provide about 20% more stopping power and better heat dissipation than before.

Better heat dissipation means the brakes stay consistent on long descents instead of fading. Combined with on-demand regen, the result is a bike that slows down as confidently as it speeds up.

Suspension built for more power

Extra power and a bigger battery call for suspension that can keep up. The MX5 Pro uses an air-adjustable front fork and a double-spring rear shock with progressive spring and rebound adjustment. The setup is tuned for off-road riding and improved over the MX4.

The air fork lets you change spring rate with a simple shock pump, so lighter and heavier riders can both get the bike riding at the right height. At the rear, progressive springs feel supple over small bumps and firm up on big hits, while rebound adjustment lets you control how quickly the shock returns after an impact.

Wheels, display and finishing touches

Straight-pull CNC machined hubs with reinforced spokes give the wheels extra strength for jumps and rocky trails. CNC machined black footpegs offer better grip and durability than stamped pegs.

The color TFT display is color-coded for quick reading, day or night, and lets you switch modes and regen levels easily. A headlight with its own switch is included, and the bike comes with the red graphics kit for a bold, factory-race look.

Who should buy the MX5 Pro?

The Talaria MX5 Pro is the right choice if you:

  • Want the most powerful and best-equipped bike in the lightweight class.
  • Ride long days and want the biggest battery available.
  • Appreciate adjustable suspension and premium brakes.
  • Prefer a reliable gearbox over a belt drive.
  • Are an experienced rider ready to use a hyper performance mode.

Setting up your MX5 Pro

Take advantage of the adjustable suspension. Use a shock pump to set fork air pressure for your weight, then check rear sag in your riding gear and adjust preload so the bike sits roughly a third into its travel. Fine-tune rebound so the bike feels planted rather than bouncy. Roll the bars to suit your height and set tire pressure for your terrain.

Try the different regen levels and the regen lever on a familiar trail to find what you prefer. Many riders run a moderate regen level and use the lever for extra control on descents.

Riding tips

Start in a lower ride mode while you get used to the 72V torque, and save hyper mode for open terrain once you are comfortable. Roll the throttle on smoothly for the best traction, and practice using the regen lever and brakes together in a safe area. Because the bike is quiet, glance at your speed often and slow down around other trail users.

Popular upgrades

Most owners start with tires suited to their terrain, hand guards and a skid plate. A spare battery extends long days on the trail, and gearing changes can trade top speed for acceleration on tight trails. Find spares and accessories in our parts and accessories range.

How the MX5 Pro handles different terrain

In tight woods, the lightweight chassis and instant torque let you flick the bike between trees and pop over roots with ease. A lower ride mode keeps power smooth, and the regen lever helps you set your speed precisely before each corner.

On rocky climbs, the extra voltage makes a real difference. The MX5 Pro pulls strongly at low speed, so you can crawl through technical sections and still have plenty of drive to crest the top. On fast, open trails, switch to hyper mode and let the bigger battery and stronger brakes do their job.

In sand and mud, carry a little more momentum, keep your weight back and let the torque drive you through. The air fork can be firmed up slightly for deep, whooped-out sections to stop it diving under hard braking.

Understanding range on a 72V bike

With 2,880 Wh on board, the MX5 Pro has the largest battery in its class, but real-world range still depends on how you ride. Rider weight, terrain, temperature, tire pressure and, above all, how much time you spend in hyper mode all play a part. Riding in a lower mode, using regen and keeping tires correctly inflated will stretch your range noticeably.

Cold weather temporarily reduces battery capacity, so expect a little less in winter. Learning your consumption on familiar trails is the best way to plan longer rides with confidence.

Choosing between the Talaria models

Talaria’s range covers a lot of ground. The Talaria X3 and Sting MX3 are great-value lightweight bikes. The Sting MX4 adds more power, a bigger battery and a street light kit. The MX5 Pro moves up to 72V with premium brakes and suspension for riders who want the best lightweight bike available. The Komodo steps up to a larger chassis for riders who want more size and stability.

If you are unsure which one suits you, email us your height, weight and the type of riding you do, and we will help you choose.

Electric vs gas: the cost of ownership

A gas dirt bike needs fuel, oil changes, air filters, spark plugs and periodic engine rebuilds. The MX5 Pro needs none of those. Charging costs a fraction of a tank of fuel, and the gearbox only needs occasional oil changes. Over a few riding seasons the savings add up quickly, and you spend more of your free time riding instead of wrenching.

Storing your bike between seasons

Before storing the MX5 Pro for winter, clean it, lube the chain and keep it somewhere dry. Charge the battery to around half and check it every few weeks, keeping it indoors above freezing. A little extra tire pressure helps prevent flat spots.

Why riders choose Talaria

Talaria built its reputation on one key idea: a lightweight electric dirt bike should be durable as well as fun. The sealed gearbox drive, forged frames and steadily improving suspension have made the Sting family a favorite with trail riders who want low maintenance and reliable performance, season after season.

Learning to ride an electric dirt bike

If you are coming from a mountain bike or a gas dirt bike, give yourself a few rides to adjust. There is no clutch or gear lever, so all your control comes from the throttle, the brakes and the regen. Practice smooth throttle roll-ons, look well ahead and stand on the pegs over rough ground. Build up gradually before trying the most powerful mode.

Accessories to budget for

Set aside a little extra for a bike stand, a tire pressure gauge, a shock pump for the air fork, a basic tool kit and quality riding gear. A spare battery is the most useful upgrade for long days on the trail.

Is the MX5 Pro street legal?

The MX5 Pro is sold as an off-road electric dirt bike, although it includes a switchable headlight. Road registration depends on your state’s rules for lighting, registration and insurance, so check with your local DMV first. Off-road, ride on private property with permission, at off-highway vehicle parks or on trails open to dirt bikes. The American Motorcyclist Association is a great place to learn about riding access near you.

Maintenance made easy

There is no fuel, no engine oil, no spark plug and no air filter. A simple routine keeps the MX5 Pro running perfectly:

  • Change the gearbox oil at the recommended interval.
  • Check tire pressure and spoke tension before every ride.
  • Clean, lube and adjust the chain.
  • Check fork air pressure and suspension settings.
  • Inspect brake pads and fluid regularly.

Battery care

To get the longest life from the 2,880 Wh pack, let it cool after hard rides before charging, store it at a partial charge if the bike will sit for a while, and avoid charging in freezing temperatures. Always use the supplied charger.

Safety gear

Always wear a DOT-approved off-road helmet, goggles, boots, gloves and body armor. Quiet electric bikes can surprise hikers, cyclists and horses, so slow down and give them plenty of room.

How ordering works

Add the MX5 Pro to your cart and complete secure checkout. You will receive an order confirmation by email, and our team follows up with delivery details and tracking once your bike ships. When it arrives, unpack it carefully, fit any parts packed separately, charge the battery fully and read the owner’s manual before your first ride.
