Built for young riders, not shrunk from an adult bike

Many youth bikes are simply small adult bikes with a weaker motor. The Hyper Bee was designed around younger riders from the start. Its forged aluminum frame keeps weight down to 85.9 lb, so kids can push it around, pick it up after a fall and control it confidently. The low, adjustable seat height lets them touch the ground, which is one of the biggest confidence boosters for a new rider.

At the same time, it is a genuinely capable off-road bike. With 117 ft-lb of torque at the wheel and a 34 mph top speed, it has plenty of performance for kids who already ride and want to progress, while the power modes and remote control keep things manageable for beginners.

Parental controls and safety features

The Hyper Bee’s safety features are a big reason parents choose it. They give you real control over how the bike performs while your child learns.

  • Remote control: adjust the power mode and switch the bike off remotely, so you can step in if your rider gets into trouble or wanders too far.
  • Magnetic emergency switch: a tether-style kill switch that cuts power if the rider comes off the bike.
  • Tilt protection: a gyroscope sensor cuts power if the bike tips over, so the rear wheel does not keep spinning. It can be disabled in settings for experienced riders.
  • Adjustable throttle curve: three stages let you soften the throttle so power builds gently.

Together, these features let you start your child with a gentle, low-power setup and gradually unlock more performance as their skills grow.

Performance and ride modes

The 5 kW PMSM motor delivers smooth, instant torque without the noise, heat and fumes of a gas engine. For kids, that is a big advantage. There is no clutch to stall, no hot exhaust to touch and no pull-start to wrestle with. They simply turn it on, pick a mode and ride.

Three power modes plus reverse let you match the bike to your rider’s experience. The lowest mode is ideal for first rides in the backyard, while the highest unlocks the full 34 mph for confident riders on open trails. Reverse is handy for backing out of tight spots without help.

Regenerative braking, which Sur-Ron calls sliding energy recovery, can be set to three levels. A stronger setting slows the bike when the rider rolls off the throttle, which helps beginners control speed on descents.

Battery, range and charging

A 50.4V 25Ah lithium-ion battery gives the Hyper Bee up to 31 miles of range at around 25 mph in Sur-Ron’s WMTC road test. Off-road, range depends on terrain, rider weight and how much time is spent in the higher power modes, but it is more than enough for a full afternoon of riding for most kids.

Charging is simple and safe. The portable, fully sealed magnetic charger snaps onto the bike and takes the battery from 20% to 80% in about two and a half hours. There are no exposed pins to damage, and the magnetic connector releases easily if the cable is pulled.

  • Charge in a dry, ventilated area away from flammable materials.
  • Let the battery cool after a ride before charging.
  • Store the bike at a partial charge if it will sit for a while.
  • Only use the supplied magnetic charger.

Suspension, wheels and brakes

Real suspension makes a huge difference to how confident a young rider feels. The Hyper Bee uses an inverted dual-crown front fork with adjustable rebound and compression damping, paired with a 9-inch rear shock with air-type adjustment. You can tune both ends for a lighter or heavier rider, keeping the bike balanced and comfortable over bumps.

Two wheel configurations are offered by Sur-Ron. The 14/12-inch setup uses 60/100-14 front and 70/100-12 rear off-road tires and suits taller or more experienced kids. The smaller 12/10-inch setup lowers the bike further for younger or shorter riders. Knobby off-road tires provide excellent grip on dirt, grass and gravel.

Choosing the right size for your rider

The adjustable seat height ranges from 26 to 27.8 inches, and ground clearance can be set between 9.4 and 10.2 inches. As a rule of thumb, a new rider should be able to touch the ground with the balls of both feet while seated. More experienced riders can handle a taller setup.

Keep the 143.3 lb carrying capacity in mind too. The Hyper Bee is designed for young riders, so teens who are taller or heavier may be better suited to the Surron Light Bee X. If you are unsure, email us your rider’s height and weight and we will help you choose.

Why electric is ideal for kids

Electric dirt bikes have transformed youth riding. They are quiet, so kids can ride in the backyard or on family land without disturbing the neighbors. There are no fumes, no hot exhaust pipes and no fuel to store in the garage. They are also far simpler to look after, which means more riding and less time fixing things.

Perhaps most importantly, the smooth, predictable power and adjustable modes make learning easier and safer. Kids can build skills gradually, and parents can stay in control with the remote.

Teaching your child to ride

Start in a large, flat, open area with soft ground such as grass. Set the bike to the lowest power mode and the softest throttle curve, and keep the remote in your hand. Teach your rider to use both brakes, to look where they want to go and to stand on the pegs over bumps.

Keep the first sessions short and fun. As confidence grows, introduce gentle turns, small slopes and simple trails, and only increase the power mode once they can ride smoothly and stop reliably. Many local riding clubs offer youth training days, which are a great way to learn good habits early.

Safety gear for young riders

Proper protective gear is essential, even at low speeds. Every ride should include a DOT-approved youth off-road helmet, goggles, gloves, riding boots, a chest protector and knee and elbow guards. Make sure everything fits properly; oversized gear can be as unsafe as no gear at all.

Always supervise young riders, ride only on private property or designated riding areas, and agree on clear boundaries before every session.

Growing with your rider

One of the best things about the Hyper Bee is how well it adapts as a young rider improves. In the first weeks, keep it in the lowest power mode with the softest throttle curve and strong regen. As your child learns to brake confidently and pick smooth lines, move to the middle throttle stage, then the next power mode.

The suspension can grow with them too. Add a little preload as they get heavier, and adjust rebound so the bike does not feel bouncy over whoops. If you started on the 12/10-inch wheel setup, moving to the 14/12-inch configuration gives a taller, more stable bike for an older rider. These small changes can keep the same Hyper Bee fun and challenging for several seasons.

Where to ride a youth dirt bike

Finding good places to ride is part of the fun. Private land with a safe, open area is ideal for first rides. Many off-highway vehicle parks have dedicated youth areas and small beginner tracks, and some motocross tracks run pee-wee and youth practice sessions with age-appropriate rules.

Local riding clubs are a fantastic resource. They often know about family-friendly trails, organize training days and help young riders build skills alongside others of the same age. Always check the rules of any riding area before you go, including any requirements for spark arrestors, flags or registration that may apply to off-road vehicles.

Accessories worth adding

A few extras make youth riding easier for the whole family. A low bike stand makes cleaning and chain maintenance simple, a tire pressure gauge helps you keep the tires at the right pressure for the terrain, and a set of hand guards protects both hands and levers in the inevitable tip-overs. A ramp or loading straps make transporting the bike to the riding area quick and safe.

A great choice for families with more than one rider

Because it is so adjustable, the Hyper Bee works well for families with children of different sizes and abilities. Younger siblings can ride with the lowest settings while older kids unlock more power, and parents can manage everyone from the remote. It is an easy way to share one bike before each rider moves on to their own.

Is the Hyper Bee street legal?

No. The Hyper Bee is an off-road youth bike and is not designed for public roads. Ride it on private property with permission, at designated off-highway vehicle parks or at youth-friendly tracks. You can find more about the model on the official Sur-Ron Hyper Bee page.

Maintenance made easy

The electric drivetrain means there is very little to maintain. There is no oil, no fuel, no spark plug and no air filter. A quick routine keeps the bike in top shape:

  • Check tire pressure and spokes before each ride.
  • Keep the chain clean, lubricated and correctly adjusted.
  • Check the brakes work properly and inspect the pads.
  • Look over bolts and the suspension after rough rides.
  • Store the battery at a partial charge when the bike is not in use.

It is also a great opportunity to teach your rider basic mechanical skills, so they learn to look after their own bike.

How ordering works

Choose your color, add the bike to your cart and complete secure checkout. You will receive an order confirmation by email, and our team follows up with delivery details and tracking once your Hyper Bee ships. When it arrives, unpack it carefully, fit any parts packed separately, charge the battery fully and read the owner’s manual together with your rider before the first ride.
