A quick history of Surron

Sur-Ron was founded in December 2014 in Chongqing, China. Its first model, the Light Bee, launched in March 2018 and quickly became one of the best-selling electric off-road bikes in the world. It hit a sweet spot: lighter and simpler than a gas dirt bike, far more capable than an electric mountain bike, and priced within reach of most riders.

The Surron lineup has grown steadily since. The mid-size Ultra Bee and the full-size Storm Bee arrived in 2022, the Hyper Bee youth bike followed in 2025, and the Ultra Bee HP update for 2026 added more power and new rider aids. Surron also builds road-registered versions for some markets, such as the Light Bee L1e in Europe.

Surron Hyper Bee: the youth model

The Hyper Bee is Surron’s bike for kids and smaller teens. It has a 5 kW motor, a top speed of 34 mph, a 50.4V 25Ah battery with up to 31 miles of range, and weighs just 85.9 lb. The seat adjusts from 26 to 27.8 inches, so it can grow with a young rider.

Safety features set it apart: a parental remote that can cut power, a magnetic emergency switch, gyroscope tilt protection and three power modes plus reverse. Our electric pit bike guide covers youth sizing in detail.

Surron Light Bee X: the one that started it all

The Light Bee X is the evolution of the original Light Bee and still the most popular of all Surron bikes. It has an 8,000W peak motor, about 47 mph in Sport mode, a 60V 40Ah Samsung 50S battery with up to 50 miles of range in ideal conditions, and a dry weight of about 99 lb.

Light weight is its superpower. It is easy to lift, easy to load, easy to throw around on tight trails, and it has the biggest aftermarket of any electric dirt bike. Eco, Trail and Sport modes make it friendly for beginners and fun for experienced riders. The seat height is about 32.6 inches and the max rider load about 220 lb.

Surron Ultra Bee: the mid-size step up

The Ultra Bee is the answer for riders who outgrow the Light Bee. It roughly triples the peak power, with 21 kW in Turbo and 511 N·m at the wheel, and reaches 59 mph. A 74V 60Ah swappable battery gives up to about 70 miles at a steady 31 mph, and a forged aluminum twin-spar frame, 19/18 inch wheels and longer suspension make it far more stable at speed.

It suits adults who want a proper mid-size bike without the weight and cost of a full-size machine. Owners will find setup and care tips in our 2025 Surron Ultra Bee owner’s guide.

Surron Ultra Bee HP: the 2026 update

The 2026 Ultra Bee HP keeps the Ultra Bee’s frame and battery but raises peak power to 24.5 kW and torque to 520 N·m. It adds SWC wheelie control, ASR traction control, Auto Hold, five-level regen and more ride modes, including Reverse. It weighs 195 lb and is still rated at 59 mph.

If you are choosing between the two mid-size Surron models, our Ultra Bee HP vs Ultra Bee comparison breaks down every difference.

Surron Storm Bee: the full-size flagship

The Storm Bee is the biggest of the Surron bikes. It uses a liquid-cooled motor with 22.5 kW of peak power and 520 N·m of torque, a 104V 55Ah battery with up to 75 miles at 31 mph, and full motocross-size 21/18 inch wheels. A 47 mm inverted fork and rear shock each offer 290 mm of travel.

With a 37 inch seat, about 280 lb of weight and modes including Eco, Rain, Sport, Turbo and reverse, it is aimed at experienced, taller riders who want a true full-size electric dirt bike. The North American version includes a switchable LED headlight and number plate.

Which of the Surron bikes is right for you?

  • Kids and small teens: the Hyper Bee, with parental controls and an adjustable seat.
  • Beginners, lighter adults and tight-trail riders: the Light Bee X.
  • Adults who want more power and stability: the Ultra Bee.
  • Stronger riders who want the latest rider aids: the Ultra Bee HP.
  • Tall, experienced riders and track riders: the Storm Bee.

If you are between two Surron models, choose the smaller one if you are newer to riding or mostly ride tight trails, and the larger one if you are heavier, taller or ride fast, open terrain.

Surron bikes vs other brands

Surron’s main rival is Talaria, whose X3 and Sting models compete with the Light Bee X and whose Komodo competes with the Storm Bee. Other brands, such as E Ride Pro and Arctic Leopard, offer strong alternatives in the mid-size class. Surron’s advantages are its huge aftermarket, wide dealer support and proven chassis. Our Talaria X3 guide and Arctic Leopard XE Pro S review cover two popular alternatives.

What owning a Surron is like

Owners love how easy Surron bikes are to live with. There is no fuel, no oil and no engine rebuild. Charging takes a few hours from a normal outlet, and batteries are removable or swappable. Routine care comes down to the chain, brakes, tires and suspension. Because Surron models are so popular, spare parts, upgrades and how-to advice are easy to find.

Popular upgrades across the lineup include hand guards, skid plates, spare batteries, second chargers and tires for your terrain. For the Light Bee X, a street conversion kit with 17 inch wheels turns it into a mini supermoto for private tracks. You will find many of these in our parts and accessories range.

Choosing Surron models by riding style

Tight woods and singletrack

The Light Bee X is hard to beat here. Its light weight and narrow chassis make it easy to place between trees, hop over logs and pick up after a tip-over. Riders who want more power in the woods can choose the Ultra Bee, but they will feel the extra weight on slow, technical sections.

Open trails, fire roads and desert

The Ultra Bee and Ultra Bee HP shine on faster terrain. Bigger wheels, longer suspension and a 74V battery keep them calm at speed and give them the range to explore. The Storm Bee is even more stable but heavier.

Motocross tracks and jumps

Taller, experienced riders who want to hit full-size jumps will prefer the Storm Bee, with 290 mm of suspension travel and motocross-size wheels. Lighter riders often have plenty of fun on smaller tracks with the Ultra Bee.

Farm, ranch and property use

Quiet, easy to start and cheap to run, Surron bikes are popular for checking fences and moving around large properties. The Light Bee X is the easiest to live with day to day; the Ultra Bee carries more weight and covers more ground.

Surron bikes for families

Because the lineup runs from the Hyper Bee to the Storm Bee, families can ride the same brand at every age. Kids start on the Hyper Bee with parental speed limits, teens move up to the Light Bee X, and parents ride a Light Bee X or Ultra Bee alongside them. Shared chargers are not always compatible between models, so check before you plan a shared setup, but riding techniques, maintenance habits and many accessories carry over.

Charging and battery care across the Surron lineup

Every current Surron model uses a lithium-ion battery that is removable or swappable. Charging times vary by model and charger; the Light Bee X takes about 2 hours from 20% to 80%, the Ultra Bee HP about 2.5 hours from 20% to 80% on its 1000W charger and the Storm Bee about 4 hours from a standard wall outlet. The same care rules apply to all of them: charge in a dry, ventilated place, let the battery cool after hard rides, avoid storing it full or empty for long periods and keep it out of extreme heat and cold.

Buying a used Surron: what to check

Because Surron bikes are so popular, there is a busy used market. If you are buying second-hand, check carefully:

  • Ask for the original receipt and confirm the frame number matches the paperwork.
  • Check the battery’s range and charging behavior, and ask how it was stored.
  • Look for bent bars, cracked plastics, worn chains and sprockets, and loose spokes.
  • Check fork seals and the rear shock for leaks.
  • Ask what has been modified; heavily modified bikes can be harder to support.
  • Avoid deals that look too good to be true, and never pay before seeing the bike.

A new bike from a dealer costs more, but it comes with a warranty, support and a battery with its full life ahead of it.

Transporting Surron bikes

The Hyper Bee and Light Bee X are light enough for many hitch-mounted motorcycle carriers and slide easily into a pickup bed. The Ultra Bee and Storm Bee need a solid ramp, a trailer or a heavy-duty carrier rated well above their weight. Strap all Surron models down by the frame and handlebars, not the plastic bodywork, and remove the battery for long trips if you can.

Gear for every Surron rider

Whatever model you choose, wear a DOT or ECE certified full-face helmet, goggles, gloves, boots and body armor. Even the Light Bee X reaches about 47 mph, and the bigger Surron bikes go much faster. Kids on the Hyper Bee need the same full protection, sized properly for them.

A natural upgrade path

One reason riders stay loyal to Surron is how naturally the lineup steps up. Many young riders start on a Hyper Bee, move to a Light Bee X in their teens and step up to an Ultra Bee or Storm Bee as adults. Skills carry over at every stage: the riding position, controls and power delivery feel familiar, and owners already know how to care for the bikes.

If you already own a Light Bee X and are thinking about an Ultra Bee, expect a big jump in power, stability and range, along with roughly twice the weight. Spend your first rides in the lower modes while you adjust.

What to look for in the spec sheets

When you compare Surron models, focus on four numbers first: seat height, weight, battery size and peak power. Seat height and weight decide whether the bike suits your body and skill. Battery size decides how long you can ride. Peak power decides how hard the bike pulls. Top speed matters less than most people think, because few trails let you ride flat out for long.

After that, look at suspension travel, wheel sizes and rider aids such as traction control and wheelie control. These matter more as your speed and skill grow, and they are where the bigger Surron bikes pull ahead.

Seasonal riding tips

All Surron bikes use lithium batteries, which deliver less power and range below about 40°F. In winter, store the battery indoors and fit it just before you ride. In summer, park in the shade and let the battery cool before charging. Light rain and wet trails are fine, but avoid deep water crossings and never pressure-wash the motor, controller or connectors.

Before a long layoff, clean the bike, lube the chain, charge the battery to around 50% and check it every month or two. A few minutes of care keeps your bike ready for the first warm weekend.

Are Surron bikes street legal?

In the US, the Surron bikes we sell are off-road models. Ride them on private land, tracks and legal off-road areas. The Storm Bee’s North American version includes a headlight and number plate, but road registration rules vary by state, so always check locally before riding on public roads.

Where to buy Surron bikes
