Why upgrade your Talaria X3 battery?

The factory Talaria X3 battery is a capable 60V 40Ah pack. For many riders, though, range is the first thing they want more of. Long trail days, bigger riders and hard riding all drain a stock pack quickly.

This 72V 50Ah pack stores about 3,600 Wh of energy, compared with about 2,400 Wh in the stock battery. That is roughly 50% more energy to spend on the trail, so you can ride further before heading back to charge.

Talaria X3 battery cells: Samsung 40T 21700

The pack is built with Samsung 40T 21700 cells, a high-drain lithium-ion cell rated for 35A of continuous discharge. High-drain cells hold their voltage better under hard acceleration and long climbs, which means stronger, more consistent power when you need it most.

Quality cells also tend to keep more of their capacity over hundreds of charge cycles, so the pack continues to deliver good range season after season.

Talaria X3 battery BMS with Bluetooth

A battery management system protects the cells and keeps them balanced. This pack uses a 150A continuous ANT smart BMS that connects to a free app on iOS and Android over Bluetooth.

In the app, you can see individual cell voltages, overall pack voltage, discharge current, pack temperature, charge cycle count and state of health. Cell-level data is especially useful, because an imbalanced cell is one of the most common causes of battery problems. The BMS helps you spot an issue before it ends a ride.

Why a 72V Talaria X3 battery instead of 60V?

Higher voltage lets a motor make the same power with less current. Less current means less heat in the wiring, connectors and motor. Many riders also notice sharper throttle response at low and medium speeds with a higher-voltage pack.

Voltage also matters for compatibility. Your controller and charger must be rated for the pack’s voltage, so check your setup with us before you order.

Controller and charger: check before you order

Before fitting any higher-voltage Talaria X3 battery, confirm that your controller is rated for a 72V pack. Some riders run this battery alongside a 72V aftermarket controller. Send us your controller model and we will confirm what your bike needs before you buy.

Charging matters too. Always charge with a charger designed for this 72V pack. A charger made for the stock 60V battery cannot charge a 72V pack correctly. If you need a matching charger, ask us and we will point you to the right option.

If range is your main limit on the X3, the upgraded Talaria X3 battery is one of the most effective changes you can make.

Who should buy this Talaria X3 battery?

  • Trail riders who regularly run the stock pack flat before the ride is over.
  • Heavier riders who use more energy per mile.
  • Riders building a 72V setup with a matching controller.
  • Owners with an aging stock pack who want an upgrade instead of a like-for-like replacement.
  • Data-minded riders who want live cell and temperature readings on their phone.

Which bikes does this Talaria X3 battery fit?

The pack is listed for the Talaria X3 and the Talaria XXX Pro, which share the same frame dimensions and battery compartment. It is not compatible with the Talaria Sting MX3, MX4 or MX5, which use a different battery shape and mounting system.

Installing your Talaria X3 battery

The pack uses the stock mounting points, so no fabrication or bracket changes are needed. With basic hand tools, many riders complete the battery swap in under 30 minutes. If you are fitting a new controller at the same time, allow 60 to 90 minutes. As a general guide:

  1. Switch the bike off, remove the key and put it on a stable stand.
  2. Disconnect the stock battery connector by the plug body, not the cables.
  3. Remove the stock mounting hardware and lift the old pack out.
  4. Fit the new pack using the same mounting points and secure the hardware.
  5. Reconnect firmly and confirm your controller is rated for 72V.
  6. Switch on, check the display and pair the BMS app.

If you are not comfortable working with high-voltage components, have a qualified shop do the installation.

Charging your Talaria X3 battery

  • Use only a charger made for this 72V pack.
  • Charge indoors in a dry, ventilated space at room temperature.
  • Let the battery cool after a hard ride before charging.
  • Unplug the charger once the pack is full.
  • Check the BMS app now and then for cell balance and temperature.

Getting the most range from your Talaria X3 battery

Range depends on speed, terrain, temperature, rider weight and riding style. Smooth throttle control is the biggest factor you control. Roll on gradually, carry momentum through corners and use gentler riding modes on transfer sections.

Keep tires at the right pressure and the chain clean and lubed, since both reduce drag. Watch the battery level on your first few rides to learn your new real-world range.

Storing your Talaria X3 battery

For storage longer than a few weeks, keep the pack at around half charge rather than full or empty. Store it indoors, somewhere cool and dry, away from sunlight, heaters and anything flammable.

Check the charge every month or so and top it up if it drops. A lithium battery left fully discharged for a long time can be permanently damaged.

Talaria X3 battery safety

  • Never open, puncture or modify the battery case.
  • Stop using a pack that is swollen, cracked, leaking or unusually hot.
  • Keep the connector clean, dry and covered when the pack is out of the bike.
  • Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface with a smoke detector nearby.
  • Keep batteries away from children and pets.

Talaria X3 battery warranty and factory coverage

The battery comes with a 2-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Keep in mind that installing an aftermarket battery on a bike still under its factory warranty can affect coverage on the battery and powertrain. If your X3 is still under warranty, ask us before you upgrade.

Reading the BMS app

Once paired, the ANT app shows a snapshot of your pack’s health. Healthy cells sit at very similar voltages. If one cell drifts noticeably higher or lower than the rest, or the pack temperature climbs more than usual, stop riding and contact us. Checking the app every few rides takes seconds and helps your Talaria X3 battery last longer.

The cycle count and state-of-health readings are also handy if you ever sell the bike, because they show the next owner how the battery has been looked after.

Your Talaria X3 battery in cold and hot weather

Lithium batteries deliver less energy in the cold, so range drops in winter. Store the pack indoors before a ride so it starts warm, and charge only when it is above freezing. In hot weather, park in the shade between sessions and let the pack cool before charging.

Protecting the Talaria X3 battery connector

The main connector carries high current. Check the pins for dirt or corrosion when the pack is out, cover it during storage and make sure the plug seats fully when you reconnect it. Use a gentle hose rather than a pressure washer around the battery area when cleaning the bike.

Recycling your old Talaria X3 battery

If you are replacing a stock pack that has reached the end of its life, recycle it through an approved battery recycling facility. Tape over the terminals and keep it dry until you drop it off. If your stock pack is still healthy, it can be sold to another X3 owner or kept for a stock setup.

Volts, amp-hours and watt-hours explained

Voltage works like water pressure: higher voltage lets a motor make power with less current. Amp-hours describe how much charge a pack holds. Multiply the two and you get watt-hours, the total energy stored.

The stock 60V 40Ah pack holds about 2,400 Wh. This 72V 50Ah pack holds about 3,600 Wh. Comparing watt-hours is the clearest way to see how much extra riding a battery can give you.

Planning longer rides

More energy opens up bigger loops and longer days, but plan carefully at first. Ride a familiar route and note how much charge you use, then build up to longer trips. Always keep a reserve for the ride home, carry water and a phone, and tell someone your route and when you expect to be back. Riding with a friend makes long days safer and more fun.

Checking battery health over time

Keep a simple log of how far you ride on a full charge in similar conditions, and check the state-of-health reading in the BMS app every few weeks. A slow, gradual decline is normal. A sudden drop in range, unusual heat or a drifting cell are reasons to stop and contact us about your Talaria X3 battery.

Charging away from home

Many tracks and campgrounds offer power. Ask before plugging in, use a suitable outdoor-rated extension lead and keep the charger and pack out of rain and direct sun. Never leave a charging battery unattended in a vehicle.

Electric vs gas running costs

A gas dirt bike needs fuel, oil, air filters and spark plugs. An electric bike replaces nearly all of that with a wall outlet. Even after a battery upgrade, many riders find electric ownership cheaper and simpler over a few seasons, with far less time spent on maintenance and more time riding.

Riding with more power on tap

A higher-voltage pack can make the bike feel livelier, especially at low and medium speeds. Give yourself a few rides to adjust. Roll on the throttle smoothly, especially on loose ground and climbs, and be ready for the front wheel to lift more easily on hard launches.

Stand on the pegs over rough ground with your knees gripping the bike, and use both brakes together. Build pace gradually as you learn how the bike responds with the new battery.

Transporting and handling the pack

A high-capacity battery is heavy and stores a lot of energy, so lift it carefully and with a helper if needed. When the pack is out of the bike, protect the connector, keep it dry and secure it so it cannot slide or tip over in a vehicle. Avoid leaving it in a hot car in direct sun.

Safety gear and responsible riding

Always wear a DOT-approved helmet, goggles, gloves, boots and protective gear. Ride on private land, motocross tracks and designated off-highway vehicle areas, respect trail closures and ride within your skill level.

A quick pre-ride battery check

  • Pack charged and the display showing the correct level
  • Connector clean and firmly seated
  • Mounting hardware tight
  • No swelling, cracks or unusual smell
  • Cell voltages balanced in the BMS app
